Viral Teen Sex Video: Something to ponder on

This morning I was greeted by (yet) another shocking news in our campus, a sex video scandal involving minors.

I remember two years ago when a student was denied a diploma for posting photos (of her with her boyfriend in their sweet moments ) in her facebook account. The photos supposedly for her friends cost her her years of hard works.

I don't want to go through detail by detail as to what the sex video scandal was all about because I haven't seen the video yet and have no intention to see it. Although late this afternoon I was lured by some of my colleagues to see it (yeah, they have a copy of it) I chose to pass. I was wondering how can we be so eager to watch such a video scandal without even considering the feelings of the "subjects" and their families. Watching it over and over again (and sharing it) is adding more damage to what was already a shattered reputation.

Responsible use of technology once again comes in here. As an advocate of technology, I would advice my readers (if there are) to be cautious in using technology. Today's technology (i.e. mobile phones) can be used in more meaningful ways other than using it to take your nude photos or record your intimate moments with someone. Teens today are very vulnerable to what I call "technology gone wild" effects of these gadgets. And we have to protect them.

So what can we do? Well I guess a simple reminder to our students might get them protected by these abuses. In my class today, I talked about the chances of them getting involved in such similar situation. I laid down the things that they may lost if they will engage themselves to irresponsible use of technology. Judging from their reaction, I guess I did a good job today! And I won't stop doing this coz I don't wanna wake up one morning and hear yet another case of tech abuse.
